PREMIER DIVISION
Liskeard Ath 1
Holsworthy 2
THE last two weeks could have eased Liskeard's worries, but instead the Blues are looking back at a single point from three games against clubs positioned in the bottom four of the Premier Division.
Liskeard were saved by the weather when the visit of Elburton was prematurely ended with the visitors winning 3-0 - but a disappointing 1-1 draw at home Falmouth Town was followed by what must be one of the Blues' worst results of the season. Liskeard manager Leigh Cooper is not a man to hide and given the time, and the little bit of luck which appears to have eluded him so far this term, you wouldn't bet against him turning it around at Lux Park.
'I have to take full responsibility for the nature of the squad at present and unfortunately, we are not good enough defensively which is something I will be striving to put right,' admitted Cooper.
'With a young squad you will always have inconsistency, and that is our problem at the moment, but the League table does not lie and we are where we deserve to be.
'The buck stops with me at this club which, with its proud reputation and history, deserves better than it is getting in terms of results at the moment.'
Cooper did manage to take one positive from the game when he explained: 'A plus for us was the debut of young Liam Dingle, who did well today. He was unlucky when he created a goal for Adie Walton that was ruled out by a marginal offside decision.'
The afternoon started well for the Blues as they took a 15th minute lead when goalkeeper Ian Baker's ball over the top found Jason King. The nippy midfielder raced clear to fire in a shot from 12 yards that beat keeper Dean Chidley but came back off the post, with King reacting in a flash to fire home the loose ball. The second half did not start so well for the home side as Holsworthy's veteran striker Allan Clarke clipped the ball over the advancing Baker after latching onto a pass over the top of the Blues defence.
And Liskeard were dealt a very cruel blow after conceding a free-kick on the half-way line in the first minute of stoppage time.
The ball was pumped into the area and flicked on to substitute Warren Smith, who appeared to have the freedom of the box before waltzing around Baker and slotting into an unguarded net to break home hearts.
