Smell gets up emmets' noses

I was amused by last week's letters' page to see that J Middleton-Webb has apparently added to the 'Cornish versus the English' debate the fact that the English don't like bad smells and the true Cornish do.

I never realised the mark of a real born and bred Cornish person was that they welcomed the aroma of pig manure drifting through their open window on a nice sunny day. You live and learn.
