A YOUNG singer will be heading for the recording studio this Easter holiday as she takes a step closer to her dream of a career in music.

Rosie Ugalde will work with producers on a song she wrote herself at Future Music’s River Studios in Southampton.

The recording opportunity came after Rosie reached the national finals of Britain’s Open Mic competition at the NEC in Birmingham.

Saturday (March 17) will see Rosie put on a gig at the Old Hall at Liskeard School.

The event which starts at 7pm is a way for Rosie to say thankyou to all the people who have helped this last year. She’ll be raising money for the Liskeard School Music Department, and Children’s Hospice South West Little Harbour, where her friend Charlie McKay received care.

Joining Rosie on stage tomorrow will be Charlie Harris, who Rosie says first inspired her to enter the Open Mic contest, and friends Willow Prizeman and Ethan Willett. Ethan not only played guitar when Rosie first auditioned for Open Mic, he also accompanied her to Birmingham for the final, played keyboard as she sang, and ‘kept us sane by being so laid back’, says Rosie’s mum Karen.

Tickets for tomorrow’s concert are available from Liskeard School reception, on the door - or by calling 07932174042.
