Redruth v Callington
CALLINGTON gained an important victory at Redruth, despite being without four batsmen. Redruth were put into bat after losing the toss and their first wicket fell in the seventh over, thanks to a catch at first slip by Andrew Jones off Jim Shorten. Guffick and Leeson added 45 before the former was trapped leg before by Mark James, and Leeson clearly did not agree with the umpire's decision when he was given out after looking good on 27. When captain Ian Hunn turned to the off-spin of Colin Kitt, Callington began to get on top and the tall veteran bowled 12 accurate overs, taking three for 26. Mark Strick batted well for his 42, before being stumped by Tony Farrant. Shorten and James took two wickets apiece and Simon Fitze bowled nine tight overs at the start for only 16 runs. In all honesty, Callington made hard work of the reply after Fitze and Jones put on 39 for the first wicket. The chase revolved around Andrew Shorten, and his 39 meant that Callington were always in the driving seat. However, when he was out in the 41st over, another 25 runs were still needed and it was left to brother Jim and Paul Voyzey to steer Callington to victory with nine balls to spare. Scott James took four for 36 and Phil Bostock's tweakers yielded two for 22 from his 12 overs.
