Tony Faragher, who owns the Sunpower Fairtrade shop in Liskeard, is looking at setting up a steering group to try and get the town Fairtrade status. The full criteria for Fairtrade towns are: q Local authority (in this case, town council) support and an agreement to serve Fairtrade coffee and tea at its meetings and in its offices. q A range of Fairtrade products being readily available in local shops, and Fairtrade products being served in local cafes. q Fairtrade products used in a number of local workplaces and community organisations. q Attract media coverage and popular support for the campaign. q Convene a local Fairtrade steering group to ensure continued commitment to its status. A film exposing the unjust price Ethiopian coffee growers get for their trade, named Black Gold, was shown at the Liskerrit Centre, Liskeard, on Friday.
