A well-established local retailer is set to retire after more than thirty years.

The Spar shop on New Road in Saltash has just gone up for sale pending the retirement of owner, Evelyn Whyte.

Originally from Jersey where she had a few businesses, including a guest house, she moved to Saltash due to her husband’s change in job.

After purchasing the store in 1986, she built up the business which serves the local community well, selling a wide range of general groceries and provisions.

Evelyn, 72, said: ‘I’m not really looking forward to retiring as this has been a way of life and it’s important to have a reason to get up in the morning. It will be a big change.’

Having an interest in art, Evelyn will continue with her painting and remain in Saltash.
