There was a big turnout at a service held at the parish church of St Nun, Pelynt, to celebrate 100 years since the foundation of the Royal Air Force.
Sponsored by the Pelynt and Lanreath branch of the Royal British Legion, the service was led by the Rector, Rev Marilyn Elliott.
Chairman Paul Cook began the celebration by marching in the branch’s Royal British Legion standard, and the service included an address by Rev David Woods in which he highlighted the RAF’s contribution to the defence of our nation in war and in peace.
Henry and Jenny Hall read Noel Coward’s evocative poem ‘Lie in the Dark and Listen’, John Feesey narrated the famous verse ‘High Flight’ written by a Canadian pilot shortly before he was killed in the war, and Steve Allsopp led the congregation in prayers.
The organ was played by Barry Jay, who concluded the service with a hymn to the tune of ‘The Dambusters’ March’.
