The official launch of the ‘Seat with a View’ Project takes place at Mount Edgcumbe on Thursday (September 14; from 10.30am).
The project, funded through Higher Level Stewardship and administered by Natural England, is the culmination of over two years work by a team of volunteer archaeologists led by Cornwall Archaeological Unit archaeologist James Gossip.
The team have been working on historic structures (the Stone Seat and Upper Deer House) in the Deer Park.
The project has revealed that Mount Edgcumbe is home to probably the longest coastal carriage drive in the UK, linking together a number of the ‘seats’ which were designed to enjoy the various views on the park.
The detailed research has been followed by urgent repair work being carried out by a team of local craftsmen.
The project has also funded a new walks leaflet to guide visitors around these focal points within the Park.
