Ocean conservation charity Surfers Against Sewage is appealing for a new wave of volunteers to join its team of regional reps as they aim to expand their volunteer network to help protect waves, oceans, beaches and wildlife right around the UK.
Thanks to £100,000 support from People’s Postcode Lottery, the charity is seeking 50 new volunteers to join the team this year, who will help inspire, educate, and mobilise their local community in the face of issues including climate change, ocean plastic pollution, poor water quality and over development.
The current team of Regional Reps is made up of a diverse range of individuals of all ages, backgrounds and experience. The team includes teachers, students, athletes, artists and even ‘sharkiologists’, who all share a love of the ocean.
Surfers Against Sewage’s Regional Reps network already covers 75 coastal locations where volunteers deliver schools talks, represent SAS in newspapers and on TV, engage their local MPs, work with businesses to promote an ocean friendly approach and collectively they have delivered 522 beach cleans, removing almost 50 tonnes of litter since 2010.
The South West already has 12 Reps from Bude to Sennen and then across the south coast of Cornwall to Saltash. However there are still many iconic locations such as; The Lizard, St Ives, The Roseland and Looe as yet un-represented.
To register your interest in becoming a Regional Rep for your area please email Jack at [email protected] with a cover letter and CV. You can also call 01872 553 001 to find out more from the team.
