ENTHUSIASM and positive-thinking are to the fore at St Cleer Primary School which, although partly still housed in an attractive Victorian building, specialises in making the most of the present, at the same time planning for the future.
St Cleer, whose head teacher Catherine Stoate is now into her third year at the school, has been at the heart of the village community since being founded in l877. The original stone building has, however, been extensively modernised and extended, and re-decoration has taken place with an emphasis on vibrant colours.
The first extension was in l982, while last summer a state-of-the-art computer suite was opened. Just started is another building phase - to provide three brand new classrooms, and a purpose built library. As a result of this the school's temporary classrooms will go, and two new playgrounds will be created.
The new ICT suite has 18 computers, allowing a whole class to have a lesson there working on computer skills, literacy or numeracy lessons, or on the internet. Apart from this there are computers in every classroom of the school, which has 232 pupils. Secretary Gill Tandy has a qualification in ICT and so helps out with the children during their computer work.
Mrs Stoate said the school is currently in the middle of a very exciting time. She explained that last year was very successful, with a positive Ofsted
