New arrivals have been moving into Gunnislake and the surrounding area.

They’ve been out and about making new friends, and have been easy to find - from football players to divers, and even a Jamaican bobsled team! The famous William the miner - the sculpture in the centre of the village - has invited his friend Haymish for a game of backgammon and to join in the fun.

Gunnislake has, in fact, been taken over by sporting themed scarecrows as part of the upcoming Gunnislake Festival, a week-long event celebrating the village, running from July 6 to 14.

Events for the festival include a murder mystery night, set up by the local amateur dramatics group GLAD, an art café and exhibition, history talks and exhibits, community walks and much more.

The highlight of the festival will be the family fun day and picnic taking place on Sunday, July 8 from 12noon to 4pm, with bouncy castles, fairground rides, entertainment, stalls, and the announcement of the winner of the best scarecrow competition.
