REGULARS at the Maurice Huggins Room said goodbye to a friend last week. Mrs Jill Wenham, who has been a regular visitor at the room in Victoria Gardens for the past 15 years, received a special farewell on Saturday. She has lived with her husband in Saltash for 30 years, but is relocating to Sidmouth in order to be nearer their daughter, Samantha. Mrs Wenham suffers with Multiple sclerosis, so Samantha felt that it would be better if her parents lived nearer, meaning that she could visit them more often. Mrs Mona Tomaszewska-Honywill, President of the Maurice Huggins Room presented Mrs Wenham with a bouquet of flowers and a painting of the two bridges at Saltash, saying that all visitors to the room would miss her cheerful presence. In thanking the committee and helpers at the room, Mrs Wenham said she was very thankful that such a place existed and that she would miss it when she moved. The room first opened to provide a coffee and tea stop for the elderly and was started by a former Mayor of the Town Maurice Huggins. But now the room in Victoria Gardens, which is open daily, welcomes any visitors who want to pop in for a chat and a drink. Volunteers staff the room each day except Sundays, so anyone wishing to declare their services as a volunteer should make themselves known by phoning 01752 845721 or by calling in to the centre.
