With the tourist season fast approaching the finishing touches are being put in place to open the new Heritage Trail in Saltash - to attract more visitors to the town, and prevent people driving straight off the Tamar bridge to places further west.

Saltash Partnership is hoping that the Trail, which will highlight the history of Saltash, will be opened sometime in July.

Paul Adams, who asked how many sites would be included in the trail, was told buildings on the route include Elliot's shop museum in Fore Street, Saltash Guildhall, St Nicholas and St Faith church and Mary Newman's cottage.

In order to promote the new trail the best way possible Partnership chairman, Steve Tait, suggested Trail leaflets, which are in the process of being printed, should also go to Plymouth Information centre with the starting point highlighted. Pip Miller said this would be the top of Lower Fore Street, near the Guildhall.

Suggestions were also made for someone who can open the Trail, this to be confirmed later.

In another bid to promote the town Partnership member Mr Huxham, spoke about the future of Fore Street. He suggested more shops were needed - and perhaps a theme could be incorporated. He added that maybe Saltash could be modelled on the lines of Totnes or Glastonbury, while another suggestion was that the town could make more of its Victorian heritage.
