Twinners win quiz

THE 22nd Saltash Town Quiz, held in the Saltash Community School hall, attracted a total of 32 teams. The event, which was started by Julian Chenery in 1980, is now organised by the 2nd Saltash Scouts.

The teams were taxed by 12 rounds of questions, ranging from entertainment to nature, and all under the careful eye of quizmaster, the Rev Bob Munro. This year the winners were the Saltash Twinners A team with 101 points. Beer Hunters came second with 97, and joint third were Saltash Heritage and the Cecil Arms, both with 96 points.

Members of the winning team were Celia and Desmond Kelly, Stephanie Yates, Bob Mercer, Kate Philips and Les Williams.

Christmas card

delivery service

SCOUTS from the 2nd Saltash troop are again running their Christmas card delivery service in the town.

For the sum of 10p per card, scouts will deliver them to houses with a Saltash address.

Cards will be collected over the next four weeks from Hodge News in Church Road, Spar in Mote Park, Charlies Cakes in Callington Road and Saltash Radio, Bruce Reid and Piglets in Fore Street.

The last day of collection will be December 14, giving the members of the group a week to deliver them from December 15.

All funds raised will go towards the new scout headquarters in Saltash.

Ukrainian choir

FOR their third visit to Saltash, the Boyan Ensemble of Kiev packed Saltash Wesley Church on Tuesday, November 13.

Under the twin conductors, Yuri and Volodymyr Kuratch, the 25 singers presented a two-hour programme with music of the Eastern Orthodox church from the Greek and Byzantine tradition.

The second half of the concert was dedicated to Ukrainian folk songs.
