Houses plan for works

AN application by South West Water to construct eight linked dwellings at their treatment works at Coombe Road, Saltash, was due to be debated by Caradon councillors last night (Thursday).

The plan proposes the redevelopment of the site, on the edge of the town, for residential purposes.

The site in question is reached from Babis Lane. It is described by Caradon's planning officers as a 'sensitive waterfront site which is particularly visible from the approach to, and on, the Tamar Bridge when travelling from Plymouth.'

The officers added that they consider the layout 'avoids large scale coverage of the entire site, and provides large areas of open land to the front and rear of the dwellings themselves.'

Concern about the plan has been shown by a number of neighbours, who highlight traffic hazards, the narrow access road, the height of the houses, the fact the area is a refuge for wildlife, and the fact the development would be obtrusive in the landscape.

Officers have recommended approval, subject to conditions.
