New home for Quilters
THE Brunel Quilters - who began in the l980s when a group of nine ladies met in each other's houses to sew and socialise - have moved to a new home.
The Quilters, who initially called themselves 'Essa Crafts', have relocated to the Shado Centre, Plougastel Drive, Saltash, where they will be holding afternoon meetings on the third Thursday of every month at l.30pm.
They offer a wide programme of events which includes sewing afternoons, discussions, workshops from visiting tutors, and show and tell sessions where other quilters, or groups, bring their work to display and explain techniques.
The 'Essa Crafts' first exhibition was held at Mary Newman's Cottage in July l990, and the Brunel Quilters came into being in l99l after a meeting to gauge interest was held at the Guide Headquarters hut at Warfelton.
Meetings started at the Wesley church for a short period, then the group moved to St Nicholas and St Faith church rooms for evening meetings, remaining there for a number of years.
Over the years the Quilters have made many quilts which have been raffled, and the proceeds donated to various charities and church restoration funds.

Part-time
brochure
A BROCHURE specifically aimed at adults who want to study part-time has been produced by Saltash College.
The courses are aimed at adults, and are planned to fit in around other commitments at work or home. They vary from qualifications for childminders, stained glass and garden design, hairdressing and nail techniques, to basic computing skills.
Those considering studying at university can take a one year Access to Higher Education course recognised by British universities. Meanwhile, a new HND in computer studies described as a qualification cited in graduate surveys as the 'course most likely to lead to a job' has been introduced for September.
