'unsung heroes'

Mrs Val Shambles, St John divisional superintendent, thanked the Players and said the fund had reached £29,000 and that they hoped to order the new vehicle this year to be used for the community of Saltash.
The mayor said he had enjoyed the Players' latest pantomime 'Mother Goose' and he was glad to see so many young people taking part.
Mr Preston thanked St John and said: 'They are the unsung heroes of this town. Without them, many events could not take place.'
Mr Peter Harris, the producer of the pantomime, said that during the past 11 years, the Burraton Players had raised £3,800 for local charities.

Jamie, 19, is studying at Plymouth College of Further Education's construction studies department, who became regional champions at the event.
Jamie was awarded the Winston Trophy Challenge Shield, a cut-glass engraved tankard, a cheque for £70, a spirit level and a certificate of merit, and will now go onto the national finals which are being held in Ireland later this year.
If he wins in the national contest, he will automatically be entered for the International Skills Olympics.
Jamie said: 'I came third in the junior competition last year, but this year I was pleased I had improved so much.
'I am very pleased to be going to Ireland for the national in June this year. I can't wait!'
College bricklaying tutor Malcolm Rowe said Jamie was an ideal entrant in the competition as he has excellent skills and works for a company that encourages high standards.
Jamie, who works for WEB Construction, is currently in the middle of an NVQ level Three in brickwork at the college.

Mayor opens craft fair
SALTASH mayor Bryan Preston opened the annual craft fair at Saltash Wesley Church and said that during his mayoral year he had attended many events at the church.
The proceeds from year's event will go towards the Saltash St John Division's new ambulance fund. Outside the church, an ambulance from Truro was on display, similar to the model Saltash will be getting. So far, the fund has raised £29,000 out of the £40,000 needed.
There were around 50 stalls which displayed many different crafts, from woodturning to art work, leather goods to jewellery, stained glass to greetings cards. In one room, there was a model railway to entertain the children.
All the stalls had a busy day, with refreshments on sale and organ recitals in the church. Lunches were served by the church catering team.
