Do you want a Saltash Regatta?
Mr Sid Harley, President of Saltash Regatta Committee is getting desperate for people to come along and help organise Saltash Regatta. Last year only three committee members organised the event and it is too much work for three. Mr Harley who has been at the helm on the committee since 1965 is wondering if Saltash really wants a Regatta.
He gave up after being Chairman for many years and became their elected President, then the Chairman, Charles Chapman died, so Sid had to come back again to help organise the event. Luckily, the Festival 99/2000 committee have been able to help the last two years but after this year their three year pledge ends.
Mr Harley is appealing to Saltash folk to come to the annual meeting of the Regatta at Saltash Guildhall on Thursday January 27at 7.30pm, when he hopes a working committee can be elected, or the future of the popular Saltash Regatta looks very bleak indeed.
The Regatta is 164 years old and always attracts keen interest both on the water and on the shore. So, will it be doomed or will Saltash folk save the Regatta by volunteering to help.
