A TOY exchange run by a retailer and leading children’s charity Barnado’s and supported by a shop in South East Cornwall has raised £550,000 this year and a total of £2.5m over the four years that the initiative has been run. Each autumn the UK-wide Argos Toy Exchange sees families being asked to donate their ‘preloved’ toys at Argos stores and Barnado’s charity shops which can then be sold in the stores in the run-up to Christmas. In return those donating toys receive a £5 Argos voucher which is redeemable when they spend £35 or more on toys at the retailer’s stores. In the run-up to Christmas 2015 Barnado’s received more than 46,000 bags of donated toys, worth approximately £552,000, with which to raise funds for disadvantaged children across the UK. The Barnardo’s shop in Saltash was one of six across Cornwall supporting the initiative and which between them received more than 300 bags of donations with a combined estimated value of £3,700. The other shops were in Bodmin, Truro, Camborne, Falmouth and Penzance.
