A new outline bid has been submitted to the Home Office for money for much sought-after Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) in Saltash town centre.
The cameras would provide 24 hour/365 days-a-year monitoring for operators with direct links to police in both towns - so officers can be alerted immediately of any incidents. The cameras would be located so they would have maximum impact on issues of public disorder, vehicle crime, criminal damage and vandalism.
The Home Office will be considering all the outline submissions, and announcing a successful short-list of bids in September. Short-listed applicants will then have six weeks to prepare and submit final proposals, with winners being notified in the autumn.
Mr Tait said: 'We're conscious that Caradon is the only Cornish district area not to have received Home Office funding for CCTV.'
