groundwork on the all-weather pitch at Salt Mill will soon be completed, members of the town council's civic amenities committee heard last week. MP Colin Breed has written to the town council suggesting part of the equipment for Longstone Park play area could include an assault course and fitness trail. While councillors felt this was a good idea, there are not enough funds available to cover the cost, but they will seek separate funding. Mayor Joe Ellison said it is hoped to soon have the bust of Brunel in North Road floodlit once the guard shields have been placed around the lights. A new plaque has been placed Saltash Scouts have agreed to deliver the next Town Messenger. A survey of seating is to be done by councillor Mrs Jo Baskott, who will report back if repairs are needed. A seat is to replace the planter in Fore Street near Barclay's Bank. Christmas events are still being planned and the usual Christmas tree will be in Victoria Gardens. Local school children will be in procession with their lanterns depicting Brunel's structures of the Royal Albert Bridge and tunnels and ship.
