Facing a blank Saturday after original opponents Plymouth Arguam pulled out in midweek Saltash were fortunate to pick up a late fixture with Plymouth city side Old Public Oaks at a rain soaked Elburton.

And more or less back to full strength after last week's somewhat depleted side under performed against Liskeard at Lux Park. They kept their own line intact and the Old Boys on the back foot throughout in a seven try romp.

New signing Richie Wadsworth showed the way with a debut try on the quarter hour. Ian Davis followed with a corner try. Wadsworth went over with a five meter crash ball for his second and two conversions from Nigel Owen made it nineteen nil at the break.

Steve Ryan and Angus Fewell added second half tries, Rob Bewes dived over from the back of a five metre scrum and added another on the end of more forward pressure. Owen was on target with three conversions.

Liskeard/Looe U-9s Mini Rugby

Victory for

Liskeard/Looe

ON Saturday the under 9s played away at St Austell in wet and windy conditions. The team consisted of Adam Bainbridge (Capt), Christiern Francis, Lucy Demaine, William Sherwood, Carlin Champion, Charlie Brown, Lewis Robinson, Joe Ackland, Jake Mackay, Ben Surman and Paul Huish. In contrast, to Liskeard/Looe's previous outing two weeks ago they settled down quickly with early good tackles and passing of the ball.

Liskeard/Looe kept their opponents hemmed into their own half making them defend earnestly. However, midway through the first half Liskeard/Loe finally broke through the St Austell defence with Adam Bainbridge going over the line. St Austell came back and eventually pushed their opponents into their own half and despite some resolute defending by Liskeard/Looe they finally gave away a try. The second half was very much a repeat of the first but slowly Liskeard/Looe ground down their opponents and allowed Christiern Francis to score the last try to make the final score 10 points to five for Liskeard/Looe. The second game was similar to the first.

Excellent rugby was played by both teams but Liskeard/Looe was always the strongest in the areas that mattered. Unfortunately they slipped momentarily into their old ways and gave away the first try. However, they kept their confidence and the first try to Liskeard/Looe came after Lucy Demaine was tackled close to the St Austell try line, but quick release of the ball allowed Ben Surman to go for the try line.

In the second half Liskeard/Looe really started to put on the pressure but St Austell held out until again quick ball was fed out to Lucy Demaine who made space to claim the second try.

A few minutes later in a similar move Lewis Robinson made a surging run for the final try of the match with the score being 15 point to five for Liskeard/Looe. Both Christiern Francis and Joe Ackland were made Man of the Match for their excellent tackling and passing. A mention should also be made of Charlie Brown who displayed some excellent possession rugby. The next game is on Sunday November 12th at home (at last) to Hayle.

Under-11s

St Austell.....................................42

Liskeard/Looe............................10

ANOTHER wet and windy day saw Liskeard/Looe Under 11s away to St Austell. Liskeard didn't like the conditions and it was not long before the home team scored the first try and then successfully converted it. Liskeard could not get the ball easily and when they got it they weren't really sure what to do with it and of course they forgot the training sessions.

Siobhan Stribley had an excellent game for Liskeard she went for every loose ball and tackled really well. St Austell had the best of the first half they scored another six tries all converted to give the half time score of 42-0.

The stiff half time talk by the coach saw Liskeard a completely different side in the second half. The opposition was still stiff but Liskeard's defence of Daniel Yeatman, Daniel Torrs and Oliver Nance put in better tackles.

The scrum of Evan Klopp, Jan Spiering and Simon Watt won good ball and scrum half Adam Whittington kicked the ball up to the corner and John Burns put pressure on St Austell's defence leading to loose ball and Jake Francis showing excellent follow up play put pressure on the ball to score Liskeard's first try.

Liskeard had most of the ball this half and Daniel Watt tried to run on several occasions but could not make progress. Adam then won good ball from the scrum and ran from his half way line side stepping the defence to score an excellent try which helped his Man of the Match selection.

Under-12s

St Austell.....................................21

Liskeard/Looe............................28

A win at St Austell saw the terrific twelves up and running at last! Arriving at St Austell to find there was no game for the boys. St Austell rallied round to find a team, these were mostly U-13s with some U-11s.

With the wind and rain ever gaining momentum it was a struggle for both teams to remain upright. The first half saw Liskeard over the line first with a try from Callum followed by Greg converting. Liskeard put up a good fight for the ball keeping it in their half for a majority of the game. Then Nathan made a break away run and scored another try which Greg also converted. Then just on the half time whistle St Austell scored and converted.

The second half saw St Austell come out the stronger side scoring a try and conversion quickly. Then came a controversial try with two Liskeard players (Luke and Nathan) off the pitch receiving treatment, St Austell went on to convert. This made the visitors more determined. Liskeard ball handling has greatly improved and was good to see the ball travel out to our newest member Jamie Tripcony who made a terrific run and score a try. Kicking into a strong headwind it was a question of could Greg convert - no problem there as ever Greg converted with ease. With time running out, Liskeard continued to push forward determined to win.

Then on the try line saw Luke push through only to be brought down, Callum, Jamie Hawker and Nathan were all there with the pack driving, then out popped the ball which travelled well again out to Jamie T who with St Austell boys hanging off him scored his second try for Liskeard. No doubts this time with Greg, who again converted.

There were many high tackles and offsides which were picked up and dealt with fairly. All in all this was a good game, the best the U12's have played. Keep it going now boys.

Winning team were: Rohan (capt), Michael, Miles, Jamie H, Luke, Andrew, Nathan, Jake, Brendan, Mitchum, Callum, Greg, Jamie T.
