A Downderry man is among three Cornish people who were set to receive Maundy Money from the Queen during a ceremony at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, last week. David Watters was selected by the Diocese of Truro for the honour in recognition of his services to his church and community. David was one of four Cornish people and 180 from across the country to be presented with a purse of ‘Maundy coins.’ Since the 15th century, the number of coins given, and the number of recipients, has related to the sovereign’s age; as the Queen will celebrate her 90th birthday this year, 90 women and 90 men each received 90 penceworth of Maundy Money.
