SKINNER'S BREWERY CORNWALL CLUBS CUP
St Just 0
Liskeard-Looe 76
LISKEARD-Looe eased through to the second round of the Skinner's Brewery Cornwall Clubs Cup with a comprehensive victory over fellow Cornwall Division One outfit St Just at Tregeseal.
The margin of victory would have been even greater if centre Marcus Hill had had his kicking boots on, as he converted only four of the Lions' 13 tries.
The game was all over as a contest after only 16 minutes, as Liskeard-Looe tore into their opposition to pile up a 29-0 lead.
Right wing Sam Grant finished off a three-quarters move after only three minutes with
a try, and straight from the restart, opposite wing Ian Hick caught the ball, linked well with fly-half Jamie Robbins and took the return pass to cross, with Hill slotting the conversion for a 12-0 advantage.
Scrum half James Noel-Johnson dotted down try number three in the eighth minute, off the back of a scrum inside the St Just 22, and then added another when he capitalised on a St Just mistake at another scrum to take Liskeard-Looe's lead up to 22-0.
A good, open move saw centre Baz Hocking add the fifth try, with Hill putting over the extras, and the latter then added a penalty as well to make it 32-0.
The avalanche of points continued up to the break, with Grant's crunching tackle on the St Just full-back seeing the ball go loose for flanker Yestin Hutchings to pick up and crash over. No.8 Ali Hill finished off a pushover scrum, for brother Marcus to convert, while Robbins and lock Chris Sobey provided further scores to make it 54-0 to the visitors at the interval.
Liskeard-Looe coach Chris Hocking was furious with his side for taking their foot off the gas in the second period, and they only scored four more tries.
Hocking grabbed the first in the 51st minute, and Robbins collected his second with a cracking try, which Marcus Hill converted. Grant then notched his second, while Robbins completed his hat-trick to round off a very satisfying afternoon for the Lions.
Liskeard-Looe are hoping to be in action again tomorrow, with an away match against a Redruth Development XV.
