Residents and businesses will experience ‘the least inconvenience possible’ when the road between Hessenford and Seaton is closed, says the Cornwall Councillor for the area.

The B3247 is set to close today Tuesday (October 31) for six weeks while major repair work is carried out.

The road has been under traffic light control since August 2016, and now a closure is unavoidable, says Councillor Richard Pugh.

‘The road is falling away, and this work has to be done,’ said Cllr Pugh.

‘Cornwall Council and CORMAC initially wanted to do the work in September, but the consensus from businesses was that the best time to start would be after the half term.

‘Cornwall Council has been fantastic and has changed the date. They were also talking about a four month closure and this is now down to six weeks.’

While a diversion will be in place for motorists, amendments to the bus service have been made by Go Cornwall Bus after discussion with Cornwall Council and Cllr Pugh.

The number 75 service between Downderry and Liskeard, which normally runs five times each day, will be reduced. Two ‘shopping trip buses’ will run each day, going from Downderry to Liskeard at 11am and at 3.55pm, and from Liskeard to Downderry at 2.04pm.
