The tiny riverside village of Golant, between Fowey and Lostwithiel, has a tiny population of around 220 people yet it appears this small group has many hidden talents which are only just coming to light.

Artist Michelle Robins, who has lived in Golant for over 30 years, put out a call to villagers to see if they wanted to join in a pre-Christmas arts and crafts trail. Michelle said: ‘The response was beyond all expectations. The trail is offering a choice of arts and crafts that could only be expected from a large town, not a tiny village in one of the smallest parishes in the country.’

Being displayed, and for sale in a number of locations, including villagers’ homes, the ancient St Sampson’s church and the village hall, are items including wood-turned gifts, unique Christmas cards of the local area created by village artists, upcycled glassware, pottery, Christmas decorations, paintings, photographs, jewellery and bookbinding jewellery as well as a children’s mini workshop. Refreshments will be available in the Fisherman’s Arms and Cafe Kayak.

When it gets dark the atmosphere in the village will be enhanced by twinkling boat lights from boats of various shapes and sizes moored up on the Pill opposite the Fisherman’s Arms.

The trail takes place on the weekend of December 14 and 15 between 11am and 4pm. Visitors on the Sunday are welcome to join locals at 4.30pm for ‘A Cornish Christmas’ at St Sampson’s Church.
