A resource centre, where community, arts, recreational and educational groups can access materials donated by local companies, has opened a satellite store in Liskeard.

The Cornwall Scrapstore, which is located at Liskeard community lower school at Old Road, was opened on January 10. In Cornwall there are now 475 Scrapstore member groups which provide a service for some 35,000 adults, young people and children throughout the county. Annual membership is minimal.

The Liskeard store follows the successful opening of a similar store in Camborne in l998. Attending the opening were head of Liskeard community school Alan Sedgley, chair of the county education committee and Scrapstore director Meg Breckon, Scrapstore co-ordinator Gary King and Caradon councillor Sid Gardner, as £1,000 was given by Caradon council towards the scheme.

One of the Scrapstore's patrons, actress Jenny Agutter who lives on the Lizard, was unable to attend, but it is hoped she will look in on the new facility in the future.

The Store collects materials such as industrial off-cuts and waste which could not be sold or recycled, and these are sorted out by the member groups who take what they require. Materials include foil, foam, wood, bobbins, plastic containers, CDs and linen etc.

Mr King, a former design and technology teacher, said that members can visit as often as they like and take what they need. He can be contacted on 01726 861166.
