There were double celebrations at Tamara residential and day care centre on Thursday. Two residents celebrated their 101st birthdays in the first two weeks of this month! Phyl Woolcock was born on July 1, 1906, and although she wasn't born in Torpoint, moved to the town in 1938. She originally worked as a Norland Nanny. Phyl was married to Les and has one daughter, Cynthia. Phyl has always enjoyed making her own clothes. She said of her life: 'I love children and animals, but not old people, because I am one of them!' She has been a resident at Tamara since 2003. Winifred Dudley was born in Torquay, but married a Fowey man who worked for Great Western Railway (GWR). They had two sons Andrew and Peter. Winifred had a career as a nanny. They lived in Birmingham before moving to Cornwall 40 years ago. She only moved into Tamara nursing home at the beginning of this year. Although living in Cornwall for so long Winifred commented: 'I am still a Devonshire Dumpling.' Torpoint mayor John Crago visited the ladies and presented each with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the town.
