A REPORT on the future of the library and one stop shop service in Cornwall will be debated tomorrow (Tuesday, October 27).

Cornwall Council is faced with making major cuts and has been looking at a number of different ways in which the service could be provided.

The council’s communities policy advisory committee will be discussing the report next week and it will also be presented to the council’s Cabinet on November 4.

The report summarises the work undertaken so far, following public consultation, on the options for transferring or devolving the operation of individual libraries and one stop shops to town councils or community organisations.

Committed

Some towns have said they would run their libraries, however, in other communities no interest has been registered in such an option.

Councillor Geoff Brown said: ‘This is a very complex programme of work and, unfortunately, it will take time to finalise.

‘I remain committed, in the face of significant cuts, to being able to deliver an effective, efficient and consistent service across Cornwall.’

Changes to the way the service is provided are due to come in from April next year.
