TEAMS of fundraisers will be stepping out this weekend as Liskeard’s Relay for Life goes virtual again.

Relay for Life for Cancer Research is an annual event that would normally take place over 24 hours on the Rubgy field at Lux Park.

When last year’s Relay had to go online, it didn’t stop the determined walkers from taking part in the event in their own gardens and neighbourhoods and raising more than £17,000 for Cancer Research UK.

This year, the teams have already raised an incredible £35,000 thanks to the array of virtual activities they’ve carried out.

Now they’re gearing up for 24 hours of walking, running and cycling – with live music, guest speakers, prize draws and plenty more to join in with via the Relay for Life Liskeard Facebook Page.

You can look out for one of the Relay teams - Bernie's Bosom Buddies - who'll be stationed at Siblyback Lake, with each team member doing two hours of walking over the weekend.Meanwhile in Liskeard, the Creative Academy will be crocheting, knitting, and taking part in a 24 hour 'Quiltathon' and Luke Middleton will be singing the song he wrote especially for Relay.The Mixed Allsorts are going to be doing a mini cyclethon from 12noon to 10pm today.Look out for other teams in their purple and blue shirts, or maybe in fancy dress, in the Duloe, Liskeard and Pensilva areas!Teams will be posting photos and spurring each other on with fancy dress themed laps and motivational messages as they go.

Lots of the usual activities you’d expect with Relay in Liskeard are happening, and supporters who would normally attend at Lux Park are encouraged to tune in online.

The opening ceremony will be held at 12 noon today, and there’ll be a virtual ‘Candle of Hope’ ceremony at 10pm. Singers will be performing live through the weekend, and tomorrow morning starts off active with a ‘wake up shake up’ demonstration at 8am and Power Hooping at 9am.
