ONE of South East Cornwall’s biggest fundraising events will be going ahead later this month – lockdown style.
The Liskeard Relay for Life is the only such event in Cornwall for Cancer Research UK and raises many thousands of pounds each year.
The sponsored fundraiser sees teams complete laps of the rugby field at Lux Park in a non-stop 24-hour relay.
Organisers have decided to go ahead with the event but with the venue changed to ’the lockdown location of your choice’.
The Relay for Life is set to take place on May 23-24.
This year’s chairman Alex Putna said: ’Participants have the opportunity to get involved both before-hand and on the actual weekend; they are being invited to share pictures of themselves in their Relay T-shirts, fancy dress for the themed laps and take part with items such as a ‘STEPS’ Challenge, ‘Pledge Your Penny Piles’ and a quiz. ’
’Whilst not physically sharing the same venue, relayers will come together via the Facebook page to share the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the poignant Candle of Hope ceremony.’
