Residents in Cornwall are being urged to make sure their electoral registration details are up to date so their voices can be heard.
The annual household canvass ensures that Cornwall Council can keep the electoral register up to date, identifying any residents who are not registered to vote so that they can be encouraged to do so.
Kate Kennally, Electoral Registration Officer at Cornwall Council, said: “It’s important that residents look out for our voter registration messages so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in Cornwall. To make sure you are able to have your say at elections and other polls, simply follow the instructions sent to you. After a successful trial last year, we will be contacting some households by email instead of sending a paper form in the post. If you get one of these emails, please respond to it, even if it is to tell us you’ve moved.
“If you’re not currently registered, your name will not appear in the messages we send. If you want to register, the easiest way is online via the gov.uk website, or we’ll send you information explaining how to do this in the post.
“As we carry out this important work to update the electoral register, we continue to follow Public Health advice, including respecting social distancing. Residents can play their part by responding quickly if their email or letter asks them to, preferably by going online. This really does save the Council a lot of money that can be used instead for other essential services.”
Information on registering to vote is available on the Electoral Commission website.
