Truro 19

LEAGUE officials have asked for a report on last Saturday's fractious match between Saltash and Truro at Moorlands Lane, before deciding whether to order a replay.

Referee Bob Morrison abandoned the game with ten minutes still to play as he became fed up with the ill-discipline in a contest in which he handed out four yellow cards.

If the result stands, it sees Saltash slip to another home defeat in a scrappy match that Truro had pretty much in the bag at half-time as they led 19-3.

The Ashes took the lead in the 15th minute as Truro were penalised for a played coming in at the side of a ruck, and full-back Steve Down kicked the penalty for a 3-0 advantage.

The visitors responded two minutes later when No.8 Tim Gay picked from a ruck and ran in from the 22 for the first try of the match, converted by fly-half David O'Donnell.

The visitors continued to build the momentum and scored again in the 28th minute when a move down the left hand side saw O'Donnell go over to extend the lead to 12-3.

Truro continued to boss the game and got on the board again through scrum-half Sam Faughn, converted by O'Donnell. In the second period, Saltash proved they can boss games at this level and started with a penalty from full-back Down to reduce the arrears to 19-6.

For the remainder of the match Saltash had much the share of possession, but could not get across the Truro line, before the official brought a halt to proceedings.

The Ashes face a trip to mid-table Bideford tomorrow as they try to haul themselves out of the bottom two.
