A TOTAL of 15 Harriers members were among more than 250 runners that took part in this year's Cornish Marathon, organised by the East Cornwall club.

This year saw the end of an era as race directors Hilary and Dave Clatworthy handed the reins to Pete Nash, following more than 25 years of establishing the Duchy event as one of the best events in Britain.

From the enthusiastic marshal team East Cornwall Harriers provides, to the wonderful views on the course and the excellent pasties Ginsters provide at the end each year, runners return year after year.

One athlete, Alan Littlejohns of Launceston Road Runners, was taking part in his 25th running of the race.

The weather was almost perfect, with cool breezes and hazy sunshine greeting the record 254 runners who started the difficult and testing route at Pensilva.

The race was won by Noel Kindon, of Cornwall AC, in close to a course record time of 2.44.15 – more than two minutes ahead of his club-mate, Justin Thomas.

Suzy Bosustow, of Cornwall AC, secured victory in the ladies' race in 3.09.33 by a huge margin of more than 15 minutes.
