In the Cornish Times newsroom we’ve again been busy producing three editions of your favourite local paper packed with news: the main edition, and the recently-launched Saltash and Bodmin editions.
The main and Saltash editions lead with the story that, following the closure of a solicitor’s office in Callington last week due to an official investigation, eight jobs are also to be lost at a legal firm in Saltash which had accounts held in the name of the partner being investigated.
In the Saltash edition we also report that an aid shipment being co-ordinated in the town will soon be bound to the Continent to help refugees in Greece, and that a pensioners couple have described a Saltash gym as a true ‘life-saver’.
The Bodmin edition leads with the story that a charity based in the town which rescues and rehabilitates horses has been given the huge boost of a £20,000 grant.
Inside we also report that hundreds attended the Callywith College open day – we have pictures – and that Bodmin Jail has raised funds for Cornwall Hospice Care with an auction of some of its memorabilia before it closes its doors for six months for completion of its redevelopment project.
In all editions we also feature pictures of the daring wing walk undertaken by a 76-year-old RAF veteran in the skies over Cornwall, and we have a spread of pictures of adults and youngsters who took part in a swimathon in Liskeard benefiting the British Heart Foundation.
We also report that a man who picked up a dropped purse in a Callington street is now being sought by police after not handing it in so it could be returned to its owner, and that a police dog with a keen nose has been involved in undertaking searches of trains passing through the county to help put a stop to ‘County Lines’ drug smuggling operations.
We have also asked the candidates standing for the various political parties in South East Cornwall in the forthcoming general election to each write a piece outlining what their main objectives will be if elected. There is also a report on how Callington Community College hosted an election debate broadcast on BBC Radio 4.
Other stories include the dates when Christmas shoppers can support their local towns by taking advantage of free parking, and the bounty handed out by Trago Mills managers to pensioners visiting the Liskeard store.
This week’s papers have a special section showing what some of our fire stations and crews do to safeguard the people of South East Cornwall – as well as a preview of the special Movember event being hosted by the moustaches-growing crew of Liskeard fire station today (Friday) - and we have a special seasonal caption competition helping to support animals at the Donkey Sanctuary charity.
This week’s editions also have previews of Lostwithiel’s annual Dickensian Evening, and Liskeard and Torpoint’s festive lights-up and lanterns events.
We also have lots of your community news and pictures and regular columns such as Ray Roberts’ Nature Watch, your Letters, TV Choice and latest Books. This week’s editions also have Farming and Equestrian, Leisure, Antiques, Property and Motoring sections
There are also 11 pages packed with Sport, with content tailored to the three editions.
Find all of this and more in this week’s Cornish Times editions, in shops from today (Friday).
