How pleasing it was to see the fund raising efforts of the Saltash "Masonic Bikers" reported in the Cornish Times on 8th October.
However, it is perhaps appropriate to correct the impression which may have been given in the article that the money raised was to be spent on celebrating the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of Cornish Freemasonry in the year 2002.
This impressive fund raising effort is in fact part of a ten year project throughout Cornwall to raise two million pounds for the charities supported by English Freemasonry.
Recent donations made by the Grand Lodge of England include £100,000 to the Kosovo appeal and £25,000 to the Turkish Earthquake appeal together with many other non-masonic charities of which perhaps the most significant is a grant of £7.4 million to provide computer equipment for patients in Childrens Hospices throughout the country.
This will enable them to maintain their links with their schools and pursue their other interests while in hospital.
