LISKEARD FM has come to the end of its 28-day broadcasting stint. The temporary local radio station has proved a hit with many residents in the town and in the surrounding villages.

The idea of local business couple Dean and Nicola Petvin Moore, of Liskeard Carpets, the independent station operated from an office above the shop, with the intention of promoting the town in the run-up to Christmas.

'The response has been fantastic,' said Dean, 'and we will definitely be back.

'We are looking at a community-based licence for an all-year-round radio station for Liskeard and district.

'If we do get community licensing, we are hoping to offer apprenticeships in broadcasting.'

Dean said the support from the local community had been amazing with people wandering into the shop putting money in the coffers to help out.

'We've got 90 per cent of the outlay back so far which to me means success,' he added.

Dean and Nicola were the anchors for the breakfast show and daily regulars included Phil Seeva, Barry Green and Lucy Walker.

People from all walks of life in the town visited the station, guesting and presenting.

Dean said: 'It's been great and so interactive.

'What other radio station is there that could boast a deputy mayor, an undertaker, a solicitor, an estate agent and a carpet fitter among their presenters?'

MP Sheryll Murray was one of the guests at the station.

She said: 'From above Liskeard Carpets, I was really impressed by the professional set-up they have.

'I really congratulate them on the service they have been providing.'
