A charity that offers support to people at Cornwall’s Magistrates Courts has won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, known as the MBE for voluntary groups.

Devon and Cornwall Community Advice and Support Service (CASSPLUS) works with people who come through the justice system, offering advice and support through the court process; practical advice and support on a range of matters (including accommodation, substance misuse, debt and benefits and mental health) or supported sign-posting to partner agencies who specialise in responding to those issues.

‘This is a real honour and is testament to the commitment of a very small team of staff, and a very much larger team of volunteers, over the past 11 years,’ said the service’s  general manager Carole Edwards.
