BRITISH Transport Police (BTP) are appealing for information after a woman's purse was stolen on an overnight train.

Officers have released a CCTV image of a man they want to talk to after the theft on the Night Riviera train which left London on Wednesday, November 13.

Investigating officer DC David Bailey said: 'The victim – a 56-year-old from Cornwall – was travelling on the 11.45pm London Paddington to Penzance sleeper.

'When the service arrived at Liskeard at just after 6am, the victim picked up her bag – which was under her seat for the duration of the journey – and left the train. It was only when she arrived home that she realised her purse was missing.

'Later that day, she was informed by her bank that her debit card had been used at an ATM at the Spar shop at Plymouth station.'

The man officers would like to speak to is described as white, in his mid to late 20s, around 5ft 8in tall and of slim build with cropped hair.
