PUPILS ranging in age from just four years old have taken more than 285 exam tests at Sheila's School of Dancing in Looe. Examiner for the tests in Latin American, ballroom, street dancing, disco and rock 'n' roll was Mrs Jean Johnson from London. Included in the medal tests were 55 Rainbow awards for under-eights, 111 juvenile Latin American and disco ranging from Grade 1 to bronze, 106 teenage Latin American from Grade 1 to gold standard, and a few adults took exams in ballroom, Latin American and disco. Four dancers obtained highly commended in the gold disco exam, all obtaining marks in the 90s, especially Kylie Bond who came top of the school with 94 out of 100 marks. All the pupils had excellent marks with not one failure. Some of the most successful students were from the children's section. They were Alice Toms, Gabby Bond, Lowenna Jones, Fay Toms, Martha Yapp (Pelynt), Sam Short (Lanreath), Lucy Rigler (Duloe), Kate Howarth (Seaton). Outstanding pupils from the teenage section were: Peter Upton, Clare Kinver, Lee Griffiths, Anna Haley, Clare Stoke, Chloe Fulford, Karenza Fafooy (Liskeard), Holly Jones (Polperro), Jess Marshall (Downderry), Jennifer Santillo (Menheniot). Sheila was helped over the exams weekend by Tracy Davis, Lee Griffiths, Peter Upton, Christie Phillips, Holly Bishop and Clare Stokes. A presentation disco will take place on Sunday, July 17 at Tencreek Holiday Park, when the mayor, Ron Overd, will present the successful dancers with their awards. During the event four girls will leave the dancing school after ten years as they are off to university in September. Kira Phillips, Lucy Caffrey, Kylie Bond and Tamsyn Kinver who will perform a farewell display. The dance school, open for 11 years, is looking forward to taking part in Looe carnival week, Downderry carnival variety show and St Germans Primary School fete.
