A PUB has been supporting its community by preparing and delivering meals to those currently self-isolating in their homes.

Neil, Gloria and Lewis Challen, publicans at The Railway in Saltash, launched the initiative to provide a service for vulnerable members of their community.

Since posting about the service on social media, the family has seen the scheme gain a lot of traction in Saltash, with assistance from Councillor Derek Holley, local churches, Saltash Waitrose, pub customers who have donated food volunteer group, and the Saltash Lions Club, whose volunteers are helping deliver meals.

Gloria, who is the also the current mayor of Saltash, said: ’At The Railway Hotel, we really want to support people in the community to help everyone get through this challenging time together. Some residents in the area are carers for their loved ones, but cannot get out due to health reasons. We want to do whatever we can to help and we are really grateful to all those who have either donated, volunteered or helped put this community project together.’
