YOUNGSTERS in Liskeard have already made great use of exciting new play equipment after a £70,000 project was officially opened last Thursday. The project at Castle Park includes state-of-the-art play equipment as well as two picnic benches. The play equipment is designed for 11 to 18 year olds and was selected by a children in the area after they were presented with a choice of three different designs. People who were involved in the process gathered at Castle Park on Thursday when youngsters Aaron and Emma cut the ribbon and declared the park open. Funding for the project came after a National Lottery grant. 'There were lots of people involved but Caradon's grant officer Alison Gibson should get a special mention,' said Jan Raines, who belongs to the Friends of Castle Park group. 'The Community Health and Information Network got involved, as did the local community, particularly the children. 'It has gone down very well with children, people are always on it which I think must be a positive thing. 'I just hope that people respect it, and the children do seem to be taking responsibility for policing it themselves.'
