Communities in Cornwall can apply for grants of up to £600 to help develop and deliver an emergency plan.

Community emergency plans help communities prepare for the critical early stages of any emergency like flooding, heavy snowfall or a major fire before the emergency services arrive to take over.  They are written by the community and detail the steps the community will take before and during an emergency incident, including where people may be evacuated to and what skills and resources may be available locally.  Having a community emergency plan can help communities reduce the risk of harm to local people and damage to local property in the event of an emergency.

Geoff Brown, Cornwall Council’s Portfolio Holder for Communities, said: “Cornwall Council has been working in partnership with the Environment Agency and others to build local resilience by helping communities to develop their own community emergency plans.  Around 50 communities in Cornwall have either completed their plan or are in the process of developing one, and we’d like to help more of our communities to do the same so they can be better prepared should an emergency incident occur.”
