Cornwall has won nearly £2m in funding to help provide housing for disabled people.
A bid to the Department of Health’s Housing and Technology Fund for Learning Disability by Cornwall Council and partners including NHS Kernow, Advance Housing, Galliford Try and Cornwall Housing, won £1.95m of capital funding.
The money will be used to deliver ’innovative and creative solutions’ for local housing for people with learning disabilities, and help promote independent living, said managers.
The aim is to help people move from institutional settings to more independent living in their local communities.
Cornwall Council cabinet member for adult care Jim McKenna said: ’This funding will, among other initiatives, support and enable people with learning disabilities to secure shared ownership in partnership with Advance and HOLD (My Safe Home).
’I look forward to seeing the grant funding enable people with learning disabilities to benefit from support to help them live independent lives.’
