THE Royal Albert Bridge will be repainted grey as part of its £10m makeover, rather than its original white colour.

The 151-year-old structure, which was designed by Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, will be strengthened, restored and repainted over the next three years, starting in the autumn.

Efforts will be made to restore Brunel's original design, including removing redundant bracings that were installed in the 1970s.
