A scheme on the Rame Peninsula teaching people how to find fresh food for free in the countryside has been awarded £10,000 to roll the programme out to children and young adults.
Vix Hill-Ryder has been teaching people how to forage for wild food ingredients for many years, and founded her Community Interest Company (CIC), the Family Foraging Kitchen, in 2013.
A percentage of the profit from ticketed walks and courses enables Vix and her team to provide a cost-free programme to local people experiencing food poverty.
In 2016, the project was introduced in Plymouth, and so far, more than 60 families have gained the knowledge they need to source fresh, seasonal wild produce near where they live.
Now Vix has been awarded £10,000 by the Shackleton Foundation to widen the scheme out to schools and other groups, with the specific aim of reaching children, teenagers and young people.
