Steps to ensure the future of sporting facilities in the Liskeard area are a step closer to completion following a meeting held on Tuesday.

The meeting, between Caradon District Council and the Liskeard and District Sports Association (LDSA), was held to address items such as the association's new constitution and new lease arrangements.

Cllr John Turner, leader of Caradon District Council, said: 'Further discussion on the revised draft constitution for the LDSA will take place, with the aim of finalising it by the end of the week so it can be considered by the LDSA at its meeting on Monday, January 12.

'The meeting also agreed to set up a small group of representatives from Caradon and the LDSA to take a detailed look at the lease arrangements.

'The aim is to have an agreed framework in place before Caradon hands over to One Cornwall Council on April 1.'

It is hoped that by doing this, sports clubs in the area will have their interests represented by a single body, the LDSA, in the future.

Grants

LDSA secretary Steve Barrett said: 'It seems that things are coming together.

'As a single association, we can put any future grant proposals for clubs to One Cornwall instead of individual clubs looking for smaller grants.'

The association is also keen to see ownership of the sports facilities transferred to the town council, however this is a decision that will have to be made by One Cornwall and not Caradon.

A previous disagreement between the LDSA and Caradon over outstanding debts was resolved at a full cabinet meeting held on November 20, when it was agreed that the debt would be written off.

However, the LDSA maintains that there was no debt outstanding in the first place.
