A PREGNANT woman who was held at gunpoint in Liskeard by armed police officers is in the process of lodging an official complaint against the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. Thirty-nine-year-old Julie Masters, a local woman, was arrested in Bodgara Way on suspicion of threats to kill while she was walking into the town centre to find her 15-year-old daughter. After she was searched for firearms, of which none were found, she was taken to Charles Cross Police Station in Plymouth. In the early hours of the following morning she was released without charge. Meanwhile, her house had been searched for firearms and none were found. Ms Masters, pictured right, who is three-and-a-half months pregnant, is alleging that the police used unnecessary force. 'Two policemen were pointing guns at me and I was absolutely terrified. I didn't know what was going on,' she said. 'I was near the traffic lights on the main road when I heard shouting and policemen with guns were running towards me. 'I told them I was pregnant but they made me get down on my knees and put my arms out while they searched me. They then made me lay down on my stomach full length while they handcuffed me. 'All the time I was shouting "what have I done?" but they wouldn't tell me. I was taken to a police car where I was searched again by a woman police officer. 'I want everybody to know what happened to me. I have been to see a solicitor and I am in the process of lodging a formal complaint.' Police spokeswoman WPC Sharon Newman said that the call came in as an armed incident and a response was made, as it always is, with the use of armed officers. 'We understand Julie Masters has concerns about her treatment and will be making a formal complaint. 'In the light of this we can make no further comment except to say that once the complaint has been received it will be investigated.'
