Division One

Two great home results for the Marquee B are included in this week's table - firstly, a late card from March 5 shows a brilliant 3-2 win over high-flyers Pirates.

In the first game, Jason Toms came through 2-1 over Roy Saxby to put the Pirates in front in what the Pirates probably saw as an easy match. Antony Lewis had other ideas as he took out Tim Cole 2-0 but Colin Penhaligan put the Pirates in front again by taking John Kelly 2-1. Andrew Champion levelled the match in the fourth, defeating Dave Elliott 2-1 before the Marqueeís Alan Ruby, showing great strength of character, took the final game 2-0 against the extremely difficult Burt Stephens.

In the second result, the scheduled 26 March match saw the Marquee B almost do the impossible against the Division leaders. Peter Ivey put the Ship Inn Dales in front with an easy 2-0 win over Antony Lewis before Alan Ruby caused a major upset by taking out Marcus LePage 2-0, the first person to do so in a league match since Will Doidge (Ship A) in October 1997. Martin Holtam put the Ship back in front with a 2-1 win over John Kelly before Andrew Champion levelled the match by defeating John Storer 2-1 (always nice to see John defeated!). In the decider, Jason Bond came through 2-0 over Roy Saxby for a final result of 3-2 to the Ship.

The Drifters repeat the performance of the last two seasons by drifting towards the relegation zone after a series of poor performances. This week saw the Driftersí Dave Marks win in the first game against the Pirates - that was it though as Burt Stephens, Colin Penhaligan, Tim Pearce and Dave Elliott showed the Drifters that there is no such thing as home advantage!

Wins of 4-1 went to Henries D, Marquee C and Legion A against Pelynt B, Henries A and the Wreckers respectively. The Legion A consolidated with a further 4-1 win in a re-arranged match against the Russell on 30 March but the Marquee C were unlucky to only win 3-2 in another re-arranged match against the Wreckers on the same night ñ they lost three frames by illegally potting the black!

This weeks results mean that we definitely say goodbye to the Russell and Henries A next season when both will be playing in Division 2.

Results: Drifters 1-4 Pirates (5-9); Henries D 4-1 Pelynt B (9-4); Marquee B 2-3 Ship Inn Dales (5-7); Marquee C 4-1 Henries A (8-3); Russell 2-3 Marquee A (5-8); Wreckers 1-4 Legion A (4-9); late result from 23/1 - Legion A 4-1 Russell (8-3); late result from 5/3 - Marquee B 3-2 Pirates (8-5); late result from 27/2 Marquee C 3-2 Wreckers (7-6).

Division Two

A late card from the March 19 match against the Ship Bombarders saw the latter come through as winners, achieving a good 3-2 away win but still giving the Boscarn the points needed for guaranteed promotion. The scheduled March 26 away match saw the Boscarn lose 3-2 again, this time to the Noughts B. The Boscarn's Brian Bowdler achieved his second 8-baller of the season and the Nought's Lee Bryant kept alive his hopes of the most wins by winning 2-0.

However, at the other end of the table, nothing is decided other than the Bombarders are guaranteed to stay in Division 2.

All matches this week ended with 3-2 scorelines, perhaps the best result being Bar 1 A's narrow seven frames-all victory away to the Bullers. Adam Shaw and Cris Woods put the Bullers 2-0 in front before Dan Fern, Charlie LePoidevin and Wayne Toms turned the match around, all recording 2-1 wins.

Results: Bombarders 3-2 Globe Trotters (7-5); Bullers 2-3 Bar 1 A (7-7); Henries E 2-3 Ship Polperro B (6-7); Lugger 2-3 Jolly A (5-7); Noughts A 3-2 Boscarn B (6-5); late result from 19/3 - Boscarn B 2-3 Bombarders (5-6).

Eight Ballers - Brian Bowdler (Boscarn B) v Mark Lewis (Noughts A).

Division Three

With only one week to go until the end of the season, the only guarantees are that none of the top five teams can be relegated and none of the bottom four teams can be promoted. Sixth placed team Bar 1 B are in a strange position where it is possible to achieve either promotion or demotion, although only the strangest of results will allow either!

Pelynt A leave it until the last minute to produce the kind of result that they are capable of. Hosting the Boscarn E, Paul Boxall, Jon Gascoyne, Simon Emery and Chris Gascoyne took the first four games with only a single frame in reply. The Boscarnís Bob Woodman avoided total humiliation by producing a straight win over Pelyntís Damien Shaylor. The result lifts Pelynt A four points clear of basement side Rowett but both teams have games in hand over the two teams above them.

The Boscarn C continued their push for promotion, defeating Henries C 3-2 despite Sue Allman taking out Chris Gowing 2-0.

The Social, also looking for promotion, only managed to take two points from their away match at the Jolly but some consolation was taken from Steve Spree becoming only the second person to defeat Steve Pote this season. To achieve promotion, it now looks as though the Social can only hope that one of the teams above them slips up very badly.

Results: Boscarn C 3-2 Henries C (6-5); Jolly B 3-2 Social A (8-5); Pelynt A 4-1 Boscarn E (8-2); Rowett 1-4 Strugglers B (2-8).

Division Four

Completing their season, the Ship Destroyers were devastated by the Foreigners, failing to gain a point although they took one frame in each of the first four games.

However, they are still in with a very good chance of promotion although they have to wait and see how the Crumplehorn and Noughts B do next week. The Foreigners are the only team in the league to have fielded only five players all season - this week being no exception as Marcus & Geoff Hicks, Andy Thomson, Matthew Brett and Tony Modesto took the spoils. Their reward is that they cannot be caught and are now Division winners.

With the Destroyers completing their season, the Promotion fight is now between the Crumplehorn and the Noughts B, who played each other on 26 March with the result that the Crumplehorn add to their run of five wins to make it six in a row. The Crumplehorn need a minimum of three points to go above the Destroyers - two points aren't enough because of the frame difference.

The Noughts B have the luxury of a game in hand so look favourites to take one of the remaining promotion places.

Whilst the Strugglers seem to have booked their place in the Third Division, they could still miss out, despite taking four points from their game away to the Islanders.

Results: Crumplehorn 3-2 Noughts B (8-5); Destroyers 0-5 Foreigners (4-10); Gamblers 5-0 Islanders (10-2); late result from 19/3 - Islanders 1-4 Strugglers A (4-8).
