Looe residents Peter and Karen Wheatley have this week realised their dream and have at last moved into the former Cornwall Council owned Polvellan overlooking the Millpool, after many months of negotiation.

At one stage, because of the length of the sale, Looe town council had set up a committee to look into the possibility of buying the property themselves to be put to community use.

Approval has been given to the Wheatley's plan to convert the former care home into six flats, with a ground floor restaurant and tea rooms.

Caradon members of the planning sub committee (west) heard that this could be achieved without any external structural changes to the locally important building, which is in a prominent position overlooking the East and West Looe rivers.

The current application to Caradon's planners was thought to be the best option for a new use of the property - particularly because the conversion would not affect Conservation area. There have been many past debates over the property's future, but on this occasion the sub committee had no problem giving this scheme the green light.
